Hot chocolate is good, but hot chocolate with booze is better. We added Kahlúa and maple cream liqueur to our hot chocolate to make a deliciously spiked take on the classic to take with us skating. And let us tell you, there are no regrets – this hot chocolate is absolutely delicious.
The maple cream liqueur also makes it incredibly Canadian, but you can sub in Baileys if maple isn’t your jam or you don’t have access to it.
- 1 L of milk or milk alternative (we used almond milk)
- 3/4 cup of hot cocoa mix (or mix 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup baking cocoa)
- 4 oz of Maple Cream Liqueur (or sub Baileys)
- 2 oz of Kahlúa
- Marshmallows (optional, but you gotta live your life)
- Thermos or mugs
Start by making good ol’ fashioned hot chocolate. Heat the milk in a pot over medium high heat. Reduce to simmer once it hits serving temperature (hot but not boiling), and add the hot cocoa mix, stirring to combine. Then, add the maple cream liqueur (or Baileys) and Kahlúa. Pour into a thermos to take with you (we took it skating!) or pour directly into mugs. Top with marshmallows.
