Guys, it’s May. Which means many of us are going on week eight of social distancing. Is everyone hanging in there? We’ve learned a lot about ourselves over the last two months. The three of us have agreed that there are some days that we’re super productive and do all the things, and then there’s other days that are much harder and you end up watching five episodes of Chopped in a row on the couch. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s important to cut yourself some slack right now and realize that it’s ok to feel overwhelmed, anxious and unmotivated. Sometimes you need those days to recalibrate mentally.
Have you heard of the term “social distancing regret?” It’s where you look at what you chose to do with the time that was forced upon you and wish you did more with it. Well, we try and remind ourselves that it’s important to also use this time to recharge and take care of our mental health.
To help keep us inspired and productive these past few weeks we took a shot at making some pretty extensive lists of things to do for making the most of the quarantine period (see our stay at home bucket list and list of 101 things to do at home). But when we were contemplating our next activity we realized we didn’t have anything for those more difficult days, when you just want to distract yourself with the reality of what’s happening in the world with television, wine and snacks. So, we focused this entire activity on those three things.
That’s right, we created the ultimate binge-worthy pairing guide for you guys. Because, if you’re like us, then we know you’re pouring a glass of wine to sit down and watch TV – and there’s definitely (we cannot emphasize this enough) snacks involved, so why not ensure everything jives together to make your evening a tad more “special?” We could all use more special in our lives right now.
Wine is kind of my thing. I’ve spent the last 15 years serving and bartending in some of the top restaurants in Toronto. I’ve studied wine at a college level and tasted in some of the world’s premier wine destinations. I absolutely adore creating pairings because it’s the best way to experience wine on another level.
Pairing wine with food can really bring out different flavours and accentuate certain notes. Check out my wine and chocolate and sparkling wine pairings to get an idea. Normally, I do wine pairings for parties and gatherings but these days the only parties I’m going to are for one and they’re on my couch. So what better pairing to do than a TV, wine and snack pairing? I guarantee these pairings will not only compliment the wine, but also the TV show itself.

- Take a small sip and coat your whole mouth. Revisit the tasting notes in the guide and see if you can pinpoint those flavours and descriptors.
- Now take another sip and notice the same notes on your palate.
