Embrace Winter with a Cross Country Skiing Adventure

Skiing Adventure

Ok, we know it’s cold out there this time of year. But trust us, the best way to get through winter is to just embrace it. So this past weekend we layered up, grabbed some skis and went on a cross-country adventure.

We found some sweet trails near Keswick, and were lucky enough to have a bright sunny day with minimal wind (a Canadian winter miracle, amirite?). None of us are expert skiers by any means, but we were all up for a good challenge and know there’s no shame falling on your ass in front of your good pals.

You don’t have to have designer ski wear or the newest and best skis to get out there either. We cobbled together some pretty straightforward outfits with what we already had in our closets. If you haven’t spent much time skiing, don’t fret. Cross country skiing is not nearly as heard to get the hang of as downhill. You’ll get into the hang of things in no time. And once you do, it’s an awesome workout. You’ll be able to get your sweat on while seeing those winter landscapes. It’s a great way to offset all that Netflix & Chill winter brings.

The first order of business is finding a cool trial. Living in Ontario, we’re pretty lucky to have some amazing parks to explore. If you’re also in Ontario this is a great resource for ski trail options.

Next, gather up your gear and make sure you’re suited up warm to ski your heart out. If you’ve never skied before or are a beginner, familiarize yourself with some basic technique. We found a short video that breaks down what you need to know here. It may seem a tad old school, but this one covers a lot of ground quickly and is better than a lot of other ones out there. Most importantly, this video also shows you how to get back up once you’ve fallen – which you will totally need to know how to do!

Once you’re through all that skiing, you’ll want to warm up with a hot bevy. Might we recommend a Hot Toddy. It’s super simple, yet totally delicious. Made with just whisky, lemon juice , honey and hot water, you can whip this up in no time. Grab the recipe here.
