Five of the Best-Ever Breakfast Cocktails

How to Host a Caesar Bar

A wise little birdie once told me that you can’t be drunk and hungover at the same time. So, when you wake up a little worse for wear, sometimes you’ve gotta start the day off with a cocktail just to feel human again.

Or, even if you’re not hungover, sometimes a brunch is just so good that it demands a cocktail over the usual coffee, tea or OJ.

Whatever your circumstance is, we’ve got you covered. Below is a round-up of our all-time favourite breakfast cocktails.

The Caesar

The Caesar is a very Canadian thing – but it’s the best brunch cocktail of all time. It’s a lot like a Bloody Mary but it’s made with Clamato – which is a mix of tomato and clam juice. Most people that live outside of Canada hear this and have a serious WTF moment, but it’s so good, you just have to try it. It’s boozy, salty and usually comes with celery and pickled things as the garnish (olives, pepperoncini, actual pickles, etc.), making it a great way to subside that hangover. Get the lowdown on how to host an epic Caesar bar, with absolutely all the garnishes here.

Perfect for: curing a hangover, patio szn, fulfilling moments of Canadian pride.

The Mimosa

The mimosa is probably the most classic brunch cocktail. And for good reason: it’s super refreshing and goes down easy. My first mimosa is usually an equal ratio of juice to sparkling wine, but by the second one I want that ratio to me more like 1/3 juice, 2/3 sparkling wine, you know what I’m saying? We’ve hosted a few mimosa bars in our day, so we captured everything you need to know about hosting your own here.

Perfect for: classier brunch occasions, pairing with sweet brunch items like waffles, when you’re chilling with your lady friends.

Boozy Iced Coffee

Caffeine and brunch go hand in hand, so it’s natural to integrate coffee and booze. Plus, sometimes when you’re hungover you need a coffee ASAP, so going iced over hot has it’s advantages. Our boozy iced coffee has a mix of Frangelico and Kahlúa, topped with cream – and it will not disappoint. Grab the recipe here.

Perfect For: when you want to wow your pals with an easy yet sophisticated bevy, when it’s hot AF, when you’re brunching before noon.

Rosé Lemonade

Had one too many mimosa’s in your lifetime and looking to switch it up? Enter rosé lemonade. Rosé is having a major moment right now, and we’re on board with it. We mixed sparkling rosé and lemonade and the result was like a mimosa, but better (dare we say). It’s easy to make and transport, plus, look how pretty! Grab the recipe here.

Perfect For: when you’re hosting mom, packing a picnic, hosting a bridal or baby shower.

The Sorbet Mimosa

This is a totally next-level mimosa. We basically swapped juice for sorbet – and have zero regrets. The end result was a slightly sweeter mimosa with a slushier consistency. It’s a fun cocktail to surprise your friends with, especially if it’s a special occasion deserving an equally cocktail. We tell you all about what sorbet to use and how to make it here.

Perfect For: hosting your besties, when you’ve got a YOLO mentality, when you really just want dessert.
