Get Into Some Lawn Games

How to Play Lawn Games

Summer is so short in Canada that when it’s a nice, sunny day we want to spend as much time outside as possible. So, we find a way to do just about everything outside, and that includes owning a ton of different lawn games. Even games that are traditionally played indoors, like Jenga and Connect Four, have been given the lawn game treatment – and we are here for it, so we own ’em.

We like to have some friendly competition with any kinda game, plus talking trash about the other teams or players is half of the fun. Lawn games are perfect for competition of the friendly variety because there’s no need to take the games too seriously – you can play with players of all skill level and add some kids in too if you’ve got ’em kickin’ around. Somewhere an Italian man is shaking his head about this, because Bocce Ball is a very serious game guys…

I first got introduced to Bocce  Ball when I met my husband. I was hesitant at first, because I’m not generally not good at sports, and especially not good at bowling. But, I ended up not being bad (and dare I say I’m now a decent player and have beaten my husband on a couple of occasions), plus it was a ton of fun.

So roll up those sleeves and organize a day of lawn games for you and some pals. We recommend pairing this with our guide to throwing an epic BBQ, because all that competition will leave you hungry.

Here’s a round-up our favourite lawn games:

You’ll need to follow the rules for each game. Some of the sets will have the rules included, but if they don’t, we’ve linked out to all of them for easy reference:

You’ll need a cool, refreshing drink to ensure things don’t get too heated, eh? Our cucumber mojito is the perfect options. Grab the recipe here.
