I mean, who doesn’t love a good floatie? It’s perfectly relaxing – you’re partly in the water but can still bask in the sun. Plus, ideally you’ve got a cold drink in hand. This is totally what we imagine heaven is like.
Hopefully at some point this summer you’ve got access to a pool or lake to dip into. We get pretty crazy hot summers in Toronto, so I can only imagine what it’s like in other, more Southern, parts of the world. The humidity can be tough, especially if you’re lacking AC and out for extended periods. It can be the type of heat where you drink like, five bottles of water and don’t pee all day. Staying cool is crucial, so we try and do it in an epic way (see our post on water balloon capture the flag).
Floaties are all the rage these days, so you can get some really badass ones. We chose ones that were colourful and glittery, in all shapes and sizes. But no matter how epic or low key your floatie you choose is, the most important thing is that it serves it’s purpose.
- Floaties – we got ours at Walmart. Here’s glitter rainbow, but the other ones aren’t on their site anymore. However, here’s our favourite options from Amazon:
- Beaver (made from Canadian company FLOAT-EH, us Canadians can’t resist a good pun)
- Flamingo (it comes with a matching drink holder)
- Pineapple (cause it’s a classic and it’ll match your Pina Colada)
- Inflatable drink holders (a 12-pack for $20 bucks? Can’t go wrong…)
- Air pump (or iron lungs)
- A cold drink (we’ve got the perfect recommendation below)
- Bathing suit
- Access to a pool, lake or sanitary pond
Start by blowing up your floaties. We recommend an air pump (or knocking on the door of a neighbour who has an air pump) because we blew up ours without one and got a touch lightheaded. Once your floaties are ready, make sure you have a cold drink in hand (with more on the sidelines) and hop in.
Now, speaking of that cold drink, we’ve got one for you. We couldn’t think of anything better to go with a floatie than a classic Pina Colada. You can grab the recipe here.
Tropical Vibes
These tunes are deserving of a good float. Think Marley, UB-40, Shaggy and more.
