We cannot express how much we love a good games night. Honestly, some of our favourite nights ever have consisted of a couple friends and an awesome mix of games. There’s something about the competition that unleashes our inner child. And it’s hilarious when people get deep in the “in it to win it” mentality.
Our favourite game to start with is Jenga. It’s simple, which makes it perfect for breaking the ice and if any of your friends are late they can jump in whenever (unless our friend Adam is there, then they have to wait until the next round because he’s a total stickler for the rules). You also don’t want to end the night with Jenga if there’s drinks involved (trust us, we’ve tried…) and you’ve gotta fit it in somewhere because it’s one of the most underrated games of all time.
From there, we like a good ‘ol game of Cranium or Scattegories to take it to the next level. Scattegories never gets old and it’s a game that people get really in to. And there’s nothing more satisfying than coming up with a really good word you just know no one else will have. If it’s a laid back afternoon kind of games hang, cards are always a good option. Our favourite games are Gin Rummy, Asshole or a classic game of poker.
We like to finish it off every good games night with something that’s easy but super engaging, like charades, Game of Things or Personally Incorrect – which is like Cards Against Humanity but even filthier and you get to include the name of someone in the room as well – it’s a bit under the radar but totally worth grabbing. Cards Against Humanity is awesome and when it first came out I LOL’d for days, but now everyone knows the cards so well that it’s lost its edge (although they do have expansion packs you can buy to keep it fresh).

Everyone knows you can’t host a games night without snacks. It would actually be rude if you didn’t at least supply some Tostitos Scoops and some salsa or something. But we think you can do better than that and it doesn’t have to break your bank to be impressive.
Introducing: our dream snack board. It’s a combination of salty and sweet and literally has something for everyone. You’ve got the old standby’s like popcorn and chips but also game-changers (see what I did there?) like rainbow Chips Ahoy and gummy sharks. Now my inner child is literally losing it. Other snackables include gummy worms, beer nuts, yogurt covered pretzels and chocolate covered almonds. Alyssa needed M&M peanuts and Rachel loves jalapeno Cheetos so I added those in ours as well. By the end of the night everyone was buzzing from the sugar high.
It also helps to have some drinks on hand to loosen things up. This snack board definitely deserves some beer, but we wanted to switch it up a bit with a Black and Tan. You can check out how to mix these baby’s here.
80’s Jams
A games night needs a bumpin’ playlist and nothing gets us more fired up than sweet sweet 80’s jams. We’re talking Journey, Queen, Aerosmith, Blondie – this playlist will not disappoint. Get the party started.
