Red Wine Hot Chocolate

Red Wine Hot Chocolate

We weren’t entirely sure about pairing hot chocolate and red wine, but we can confirm it’s absolutely delicious. So trust us on this one. It’s crazy rich, so better as a sipper in a small mug than a full on Venti size cup,

This cocktail was originally adapted from the blog Yeah…ImmaEat That (which is awesome if you haven’t checked it out), and pulled by us from the book Booze and Vinyl: A Spirited Guide to Great Music and Mixed Drinks by André and Tenaya Darlington.

Booze and Vinyl is a guide to hosting an old school listening party – where friends get together and listen to an album from start to finish. The book features 70 albums with cocktail pairings (one for side A, one for side B) to choose from, all organized by mood, from Rock to Chill, Dance, and Seduce. The cocktail recipes complement the music’s mood, imagery in the lyrics, or connect the drink to the artist. Red wine hot chocolate is the A side pairing for Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon. But it’s also a great pairing for a movie night in, a date night dessert, or a girl’s night.

We whipped up a batch when we hosted our own boozy listening party, which we cannot recommend enough.

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and chocolate chips. whisk continuously until chocolate is melted. Do not boil. Add red wine, stir and heat until warm. Pour into mugs and serve. Note that the drink does separate slightly quite quickly, so you may want to stir it occasionally as you sip, but don’t worry, it doesn’t change the consistency.
