Santa’s Secret

Santa's Secret

Holiday crafts demand a warm cup of tea. This year, we made teacup Christmas ornaments, so serving up a special cup of tea to sip on while making them seemed even more fitting. And we immediately knew the tea we wanted. Santa’s Secret from David’s Tea has been around since 2009 and is a holiday staple for us. It’s a blend of Chinese black tea, peppermint leaves, vanilla and tiny candy canes. It 100% invokes the holiday spirit with every sip and assumed to be Santa’s secret weapon for staying up all night to deliver presents. It’s a tough job, and we can all agree caffeine helps.

We made this tea extra special by adding steamed egg nog (or just plain “nog” as we like to call it) and you should too. Nog is delicious. We know there are lovers and there are haters, but we’re the former. That being said, a little goes a long way. It’s not only rich in flavour, but if you crushed nog the entirety of the holiday season your waistline would have a bone to pick with you. So we save nog for special occasions, and this crafting session was one of them.

If you so choose, you can make this beverage extra special by making it a warm cocktail. We’ve given the lowdown on how to do that below.

  1. Brew the tea by filling a tea bag, tea ball or teapot with tea. Fill your mug 3/4 of the way with water (or 1/2 if you’re going the cocktail route) and let steep for 3-5 minutes.
  2. Heat the egg nog in a small pot over medium-high heat (or use a milk frother if you’ve got it!).
  3. Add the vodka and Creme de Cocoa if you’re making it boozy.
  4. Top the mug with egg nog and garnish with a mini candy cane.
