The Eclipse

The Eclipse Cocktail

The Eclipse is a longtime favourite of the speakeasy bar PDT in NYC and pulled by us from the book Booze and Vinyl: A Spirited Guide to Great Music and Mixed Drinks by André and Tenaya Darlington. Made with tequila, Aperol, Cherry Heering and lemon juice, it’s crisp and light despite being quite boozy.

Booze and Vinyl is an awesome guide to hosting an old school listening party – where friends get together and listen to an album from start to finish. The book features 70 albums with cocktail pairings (one for side A, one for side B) to choose from, all organized by mood, from Rock to Chill, Dance, and Seduce (our favourite). The cocktail recipes complement the music’s mood, imagery in the lyrics, or connect the drink to the artist.

Inspired by the book, we made this cocktail when we hosted our own listening party for Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon. This cocktail is the B side pairing, which is also the final track on the album. And it’s crazy good. It totally captures the album’s vibe. But it’s also just an awesome cocktail fitting for a date night in, small gathering or night cap.

Coat the inside of the chilled cocktail glass with mezcal, discarding any extra. Shake remaining ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker and strain into your prepared glass. Garnish with the lemon twist and you’re ready to go.
