Boozy Spiced Hot Apple Cider
Fall demands that a hot beverage be in hand at all times. After we picked apples, we knew we wanted to use them for a hot drink – and it needed to be boozy. So we combined all of our favourite fall flavours to create a drink that we couldn’t put down.
Both apples and oranges go well with fall spices, so we used fresh oranges paired with Grand Marnier to bring out ingredients like cinnamon, star anise and cranberries.
For the spiced cider:
- 4 cups of apple cider (or fresh apple juice)
- 2 cinnamon sticks (or more if you love cinnamon)
- 4-6 pieces of star anise
- 1/2 of cranberries
- 1/2 an orange, cut into slices
For the cocktail:
- 1 oz of whisky (we used High River)
- 1 0z of Grand Marnier
- Orange slices
- Cinnamon stick (optional, for garnish)
Start by making the spiced cider. Place all of the ingredients in a pot (or slow cooker if you don’t intend to have it right away) and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low and let the cider simmer for 10-15 minutes to ensure the flavours release. From there, set the pot aside to let the mixture cool slightly before serving. In the meantime, grab a mug and add the 1 oz of whisky, followed by the 1 oz of Grand Marnier. Pour the cider using a ladle to top up the cups. Add orange slices and a cinnamon stick for garnish.
