When the crazy cold winter comes around, sometimes only a hot cocktail can warm the soul. And there’s a different kind of buzz you get from a piping hot boozy bevy – it’s like you can feel the alcohol warm your whole body bit by bit. This is literally why après ski became a thing (just kidding, we have no idea – but it seems likely, right?).
We’re Canadian, so you better believe we’ve amassed an arsenal of hot cocktail recipes to share with you. Here’s a rundown of five of our faves.
Hot Toddy
This cocktail is a classic for a reason. It’s simple to make – you just need whisky, lemon juice, honey and boiling water – and also great for when you’re feeling under the weather. Check out our Hot Toddy post to learn why.
Perfect for: après ski, when you’ve got a raging cold or flu, just because
Mulled Wine
Yes, mulled wine is a classic Christmas cocktail, and we appreciate it – so much that we start drinking it immediately after Halloween (same, right?). We got the recipe of all recipes, because trial and error. Grab it here.
Perfect for: the holidays, serving a large group (crockpot to the rescue), watching Netflix by yourself
Boozy Hot Apple Cider
This is the official hot cocktail to usher in the cold season. It’s such a great combo of sweet and spicy, plus it’s a total crowd-pleaser. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like apple cider (and if they don’t then why are you friends with them?). Get our recipe here.
Perfect for: when it’s just starting to get cold, Thanksgiving, cheesy fall-themed dates (post tractor ride hand-holding)
Blueberry Tea
Spoiler alert: there are no blueberries in this bad boy. If you’ve never heard of Blueberry Tea we’ll fill you in on what this cocktail is all about. It’s a simple cocktail, calling only for Amaretto, Grand Marnier and Earl Grey Tea. It’s super easy to make at home. You can grab the recipe here.
Perfect for: dessert, getting cozy AF on the couch, impressing people with how sophisticated you are
Spiked Hot Chocolate
This cocktail totally takes us back to being a kid again. It’s sweet, over the top and you can throw it in a thermos for easy, sneaky drinking. Plus, we put a Canadian twist on ours. Intrigued? Learn our secret here.
