Host an Over the Top Tea Party
It’s official, Prince Harry is off the market. This was a big loss for Vanessa in particular as she’s a big fan of gingers. But it’s not every day you get a Royal Wedding, so a celebration is in order.
This Sunday we were gearing up for the Royal Wedding by setting the mood with a little high tea party action. Because nothing consoles heartbreak like little sandwiches (yeah, we totally thought we had a chance with Harry).
Now we’re not the die-hard types that wakes up at the crack of dawn to tune in to the Royal Wedding live, but we also enjoy romance of epic proportions and make sure to at least catch the highlight reel. Mostly, we wanted an excuse for a tea party.
The best part about tea sandwiches is that you can eat like ten of them. Because they’re tiny. So we made four different kinds: strawberry goat cheese & basil; cucumber, salmon, cream cheese & dill; smoked turkey, cheddar & dijon and my famous curried chicken salad wraps. This recipe combines sweet and savoury flavours and can easily be made gluten free with the substitution of lettuce wraps. Here’s the recipe:
- Two chicken breasts, cut into cubes
- ½ cup of golden raisins
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 tbs of chives, chopped
- 1 apple, we used royal gala (but any apple works!)
- 1/2 cup of mayonnaise or plain greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp of curry powder (or to taste)
- Dash of salt and pepper
- Three small wraps
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, mix and portion out into your wraps. Yeah, it’s that easy.
But it ain’t a tea party without pastries. We’re not going to lie to you, we did not make these. We took advantage of our local Bobbette and Belle and stocked up on all the best things in life: macarons, meringue, croissants and other delicious things we didn’t even know about until now.
A tea party also wouldn’t be the most fun without alcohol. So we married the two (see what I did there?). Introducing your new favourite cocktail: The Earl Grey Gin Sour made with earl grey infused gin. We served it Rachel’s cute tea cup set too, which made us feel super dainty. You can get the recipe here.
I Will Always Love You
This celebration must be had while listening to the most romantic songs of all time. We put together a collection of popular wedding first dance songs and our favourite love songs to really make you feel the love tonight.
