Throw a Galentine’s Day Party

Galentine's Day Party

Galentine’s Day necessitates a celebration, if not a full-blown party. And we were not going to disappoint the gal pals in our life, so we threw a get together that Leslie Knope would be proud of.

A quick recap on what the heck Galentine’s Day is if it’s new to you. It’s the holiday created by Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation. It’s honoured every year on February 13 and centered on ladies celebrating ladies. It became a real thing outside of the show really quickly, because the concept it cool and something all of us ladies agreed was needed.

If you watch the show, then you know that Leslie Knope’s all-time favourite food is waffles. So, when it came time to deciding on the menu for our party it was a no-brainer. We served up waffles in epic proportions with all the fixin’s. We’re talking bananas, berries, figs, whipped cream, pecans and real maple syrup. Plus, it was super easy and hands off to pull together, perfect for hosting a large group.

For the cocktail, we decided to serve up an indulgent bevy. Meet our sorbet mimosa. It’s exactly what you think it is, and just as good as you imagine. It’s the perfect combo for waffles. But if you’re looking for something a little less sweet, don’t worry, we’ve got a ton of other options for you from building a traditional Mimosa Bar (which we recommend if you’ve got a huge group) to our Valentine’s Day cocktails Kiss from a Rosé and Love Potion #9 (great for smaller groups).

For us, it’s not a party without some sort of game – and we created one especially for this jam: Rom Com Movie Bingo. It’s the perfect pairing for a rom com binge watching session, which we settled into after brunch. And if you’re looking for some movie inspiration, we’ve got you covered there too. We rounded up our thirty favourite romantic flicks here.

The goal we had when planning this party was to make it easy for us as hosts. That’s why both the brunch and cocktail are largely serve yourself, and the Rom Com is easy to pass around and play. This way, you can enjoy as much time as possible with your friends.

Start by setting up the waffle board. You can cut and portion out all the fruit in advance (aside from the bananas as they will turn brown), and then just pop the waffles in the oven once everyone arrives. Just before the waffles are ready, cut the bananas and place everything on one big board. Then, let the frenzy begin.

If you’ve decided to make the sorbet mimosa, then all you need to do is leave out the sorbet, chilled prosecco and glasses. The rest your guests can do themselves. Just be mindful of how long the sorbet stays out because it will melt. We suggest buying smaller cartons so you can go through one per round. If you’ve got a huge group, we recommend going with a traditional mimosa bar.

Once brunch has wrapped, hand out the Rom Com Movie Bingo sheets, pop on a rom com of your choice and let the games begin.

Cheers!
