Eleven Epic Ways to Celebrate Halloween
In case you can’t tell, we love Halloween. It’s our all-time fave holiday. We basically can’t get enough of it. We’re those people that are thinking about our Halloween costume all year-long and as soon as we’re past Labour Day we’re like, it’s basically Halloween season, right? Cue eye rolls from just about everyone around us.
All October-long we celebrate in just about every way we can. So, we thought we would share all of fave Halloween activities in one place so you can pick and choose how you’d like to enjoy the holiday. This post has a little bit of everything: from spooky cocktails and drinking games to hosting and party ideas, DIYs as well as trivia and pumpkin carving inspiration galore.
Play a Scary Movie Drinking Game
This is one of our fave ways to kick off the season: pick a classic movie and make rules for when to drink while watching it. And good news for you: we’ve made rules for two very different movies you can download and play: Hocus Pocus and Scream.
Host a Pumpkin Carving Contest
We carve at least one pumpkin every year. We get very competitive about it, so we decided it would be a great idea to make it an actual contest. You can do this virtually with a huge group or in person. Check out our post here outlining the rules and regs. And if you want a winning idea, check out our zombie baby pumpkin here.
Make a Halloween Cocktail
Sipping on a spooky cocktail is a must while doing just about any Halloween activity. And you better believe we have many to choose from, including a ton of layered cocktails (with Halloween colours) as well as shots to get your party in. Checked out our round-up of Halloween cocktails here.
Make a Spooky Cheeseboard
This is a great pairing for a scary movie night in (Halloween date night anyone?) or if you’re hosting a party this is the perfect way to get everyone to mingle: because everyone loves a good cheese board. We show you how to do it here.
Play Scary Movie BINGO
Yes, this is exactly what you think it is. We created BINGO sheets you can download (for free obvi!) and use for just about any scary movie. Watch a 90s horror movie and we guarantee you’ll be yelling BINGO before the credits roll. Grab them here.here.
Host an Addams Family Themed Dinner Party
We had a lot of fun with this one. We put together a menu for a three-course dinner, a cocktail pairing as well as suggestions for decor and music. Dressing up like Addams Family characters is encouraged. Check out our post with recipes here.
Throw an Epic Halloween Party
Everyone wants to party on Halloween. And you’ve gotta go big or go home – it can fall totally flat if you go halfway. We break down how to make yours epic here.
Play Halloween Trivia
We spent hours and hours making fifty trivia questions. They span a whole bunch of different topics like urban legends and history, movies, serial killers, phobias – it’s totally got something for everyone. Oh, and it’s challenging so be prepared to sharpen those pencils. Grab a group and host a session virtually or IRL. Download our sheets here.
Watch a Scary Movie Everyday
As soon as fall hits, we’re craving a good scary movie. There’s something about the days getting shorter and the temperature dropping that just gets us in the spirit for a good scare. We rounded up our 31 top go-to movie recommendations here.
Host a Pumpkin Beer Tasting
This is one of our favourite yearly traditions. We love a good pumpkin beer (it rivals a PSL tbh) and a blind tasting with our friends is the best way to enjoy one. This activity is best enjoyed in early October to get you in the mood for the season. Make notes and rank the beers as you taste them. We have an entire blog post with instructions on how to facilitate your own tasting here.
Make a Halloween Candy Board
It’s not Halloween without candy, right? So, we grabbed all our nostalgic faves like Halloween Kisses and candy corn and paired it with new faves to make an epic candy board – charcuterie style. Get our tips for making one of your own here.
Halloween Haunt
This playlist is sure to get you in the Halloween spirit. Packed with classic spooky hits and Halloween faves.
