A Long Island Iced Tea is a classic cocktail that I like to have at least once every summer. They’re perfect for when you’re hanging poolside or in our case, having a watergun fight (as one does). Plus, the great thing about this drink is that you can enjoy multiple in public without judgement, it just looks like you’re crushing iced tea (mmm..iced tea).
It’s a cocktail that goes down really easily but can quickly sneak up on you – it’s got a lotta booze happening. It’s hard to believe there’s a drink with vodka, gin, tequila AND rum that is not only drinkable but actually delicious.
Fun fact of the day: The drink was apparently created by some guy named Robert “Rosebud” Butt as an entry in a contest for creating a new mixed drink with Triple Sec in 1972. He worked in Long Island. So there you go – we commend you on a job well done Mr. Butt.
- 3/4 oz simple syrup
Grab a tall glass and fill it with ice (you’ll want these bad boys cold). Pour a splash of each liquor – the vodka, gin, rum, tequila and the 3/4 oz triple sec into the glass. Add the lemon juice, simple syrup and a splash of coke to top it off. Garnish with a lemon wedge and enjoy!
