DIY Spiced Rum with Eggnog
Spiced rum is the spirit of Christmas (see what we did there?). It’s super delicious and is the perfect addition to eggnog, which you gotta have at least one sip of every December.
The only downside of spiced rum is that it’s just so sweet. When you add it to eggnog, which is already chock full of sugar, you’re holding a hangover in a cup (and maybe wondering if it’s really worth the calories). So, we decided to make our own spiced rum with absolutely no sugar added. It was surprisingly easy and we would totally take it over Captain Morgan’s any day.
If you’re hard up for a Christmas or hostess gift, look no further. The recipient will think you’re super thoughtful and creative (you obvi are). Plus, this bottle looks gorgeous.
- Glass bottle, 1L in size
- 1L of Gold Rum
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 inch piece of raw ginger, peeled
- 3 star anise
- 10 peppercorns
- 6 all spice
- 1/2 tbsp of chilli flakes
- 6 inch orange twist
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
- 1 tsp of ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp of ground cloves
Add all of the spices to the glass bottle and then top with rum. Easy right? Let steep at least 24 hours for optimal infusion. If it’s a gift, don’t forget to add a tag and some ribbon to make it fancy.
Now, time to give this rum a try with some eggnog (or nog-like beverage). Grab a glass and add 1oz of the spiced rum to a glass and add eggnog. We find a little nog goes a long way so we only add about 2-3oz of nog, but to each their own! Top with a sprinkle of nutmeg and a star anise to make it gorgeous.
