The Upside Down
When we set out to make a Stranger Things themed cocktail to sip on while playing our Stranger Things bingo, we knew that drink needed to be moody, retro and just a little bit kitschy. We also wanted something that would awaken our inner child again when we sipped it and this definitely reminds us of one of those rocket popsicles and tastes like raspberry lemonade (and yes, we know kids don’t usually crush cocktails). We also wanted something that would naturally layer, like our Hocus Pocus Witch’s Brew, which gets a lot of love.
Guys, we are super excited about this cocktail. Not to brag, but our cocktail turned out even better than we expected it to. It perfectly captures the Stranger Things vibe. We mixed raspberry purée with Blue Curacao, vodka and 7 Up. Not only did the colours match the Upside Down, but the raspberry purée literally starts at the bottom of the drink and rises from to the top (because gravity) over the course of about five minutes once the drink is poured. We literally created the Upside Down in a cocktail.
This is a must-have element of any Stranger Things watching party you’re planning, or can and should even be consumed solo.
- 2 oz raspberry purée (mix 1 1/2 cups of frozen raspberries with 1/2 cup of water in a blender)
- 1 oz vodka
- 1 oz of McGuinness Blue Curacao
- 1 can of 7 Up (or plain soda water if you prefer a cocktail that’s a little less sweet)
- Crushed ice
Grab a tall glass and add the raspberry purée to the bottom of the cup. Next, fill the top of the glass with crushed ice. Add the Blue Curacao followed by the vodka. Top with 7 Up. Watch the raspberry purée rise to the top. Cheers!
