The Greyhound is cocktail simplicity at its finest. Made with just vodka, grapefruit juice and ice, it’s crisp, refreshing and a go-to recipe for us.
The Greyhound first appeared in Harper’s magazine in 1945 claiming it “was served at Greyhound’s popular restaurant chain that was located at bus terminals, called ‘Post House’.” While that might not sound classy, trust us when we say that vodka and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice is absolutely delicious. Plus, add salt to the rim and you’ve got another classic cocktail, the Salty Dog.
Given the cocktail is so simple, we’ve provided our three favourite twists on the classic in case you want to elevate your Greyhound a notch.
For the OG Greyhound
- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- Grapefruit juice (we suggest freshly squeezed)
Here are our three recommended twists:
- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 2 oz sparkling rosé
- Grapefruit juice (we suggest freshly squeezed)
- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 1 oz St Germain elderflower liqueur
- Grapefruit juice (we suggest freshly squeezed)
- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 1 oz rosemary simple syrup
- Grapefruit juice (we suggest freshly squeezed)
This is maybe the easiest cocktail to make in the history of all the cocktails ever created. Add both ingredients into a rocks glass with ice and stir gently. We garnished with a grapefruit wheel. Cheers!
