The Ten Best-Ever Daytime Cocktails

Classic Pina Colada Recipe

Warm weather leaves us longing for a cocktail in hand, anyone else? There are certain cocktails that are just meant to be enjoyed during the day. I mean, ever had a Piña Colada at night? It’s damn good anytime, anywhere but I think we can all agree it just isn’t the same when the sun’s not shining.

So, we’ve put together a round-up of our all-time favourite daytime cocktails for you. These bevies belong poolside, served up at a picnic or beach gathering or sipped on a patio, preferably with pals. All of them are big-batch friendly, making it easy to play host (or set yourself up for a boozy afternoon – we’re not judging!).

1) Frosé

Frosé is one of our all-time favourite sunny day cocktails. The term “frosé all day” was coined because this drink is so good – you literally could drink it all day. It’s a blended bevy, so this is a great one to make for a backyard, patio or pool hang, where you can blend in your kitchen and immediately serve. Our frosé recipe is made with rosé, watermelon and raspberries, but you could also throw in peaches, strawberries or any other seasonal spring or summer fruit – the sky’s the limit. Grab the recipe here.

2) Long Island Iced Tea

A Long Island Iced Tea is one of those classic summer cocktails we like to have at least once every season. It’s one of those cocktails that just works, even though the wild combination of spirits (vodka, gin, rum AND tequila) makes you think it won’t. And while it goes down easy, it’s also incredibly boozy , so watch out if you’re having a couple of these in the afternoon because you’ll be feeling great in no time. Grab the recipe here.

3) Blueberry Basil Daiquiri

This beauty drink is one of our own cocktail creations. Made with rum, lime juice, blueberries, basil simple syrup and lots and lots of ice, this bevie will hit the spot when you’re chilling in the sun. You may think basil is a strange addition, but blueberries and basil go really well together. We’ve had this combo in salads, crisps and even pizza so it was time to marry them together in a cocktail. And the results lived up to our very high expectations. Grab the recipe here.

4) Sex on the Beach

Sex on the Beach is a classic cocktail that’s stood the test of time for a reason – it’s delicious. There are many different stories about how the cocktail got its name but we’d like to think it’s because it’s so good – it’s as good as sex on the beach. Another theory is that if you have enough of them on a beach your chances of having sex increase. Either way, the name is fitting. Grab the recipe here.

5) Aperol Spritz

If you’re new to Aperol, it’s an Italian apéritif made of gentian, rhubarb, and cinchona – it’s pretty much sunshine in a glass. It’s similar to Campari, but has a lower alcohol content and is not nearly as bitter. It’s got a deliciously fresh citrus flavour that pairs perfectly with our favourite alcohol – prosecco. Which is why we love an Aperol Spritz so much. This cocktail is great for a big group as it’s simple and easy to serve up in a big batch. Grab the recipe here.

6) Watermelon Jalapeno Margarita

If you’ve never had watermelon and tequila together before you’re missing out. The two are a match made in heaven. Add in lime juice, jalapeno simple syrup and triple sec and you’ve got the perfect summer cocktail. It’s refreshing, a little bit sweet and has a spicy finish. Have one of these while crushing some chips and salsa or guacamole al fresco and you’ll be living your best life. Grab the recipe here.

7) Pineapple Passionfruit Sour

This is the kind of cocktail you’d make your besties on a special occasion or for your mom at an outdoor brunch. Not only is the colour absolutely beautiful, but the texture is smooth and frothy. The star ingredient is our homemade passionfruit simple syrup. Mix that up with vodka, pineapple juice, egg white and prosecco and you’ve got this beautiful masterpiece. Grab the recipe here.

8) Prosecco Sorbet Mimosa

Hot tip: did you know you can make sorbet even better by adding prosecco? We call this creation the sorbet mimosa. Obviously, a simple mimosa is always delicious, but this is like a special occasion mimosa. It wasn’t as sweet as we thought it would be either, the sorbet just added a smooth texture and a layer of deliciousness. This drink is great for serving up during an outdoor patio brunch or poolside. Just keep in mind you won’t want to transport it too far as the sorbet will melt, so it’s a make and serve kinda deal. Grab the recipe here.

9) Piña Colada

I think we can all agree that a piña colada literally tastes like vacation. It’s the essence of any beach trip or all-inclusive getaway, but there’s no reason to wait until your frolicking in that white sand to have one because they’re so easy to make. Plus, sip on one of these and you’ll feel like you’re somewhere tropical for a hot minute, and we all need to escape sometimes. Grab our recipe for this classic bevie here.

10) Cucumber Mojito Recipe

This twist on the classic cocktail is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Mojitos are hands-down a great summer drink you can make in a big batch which makes hosting a breeze. As a bonus, this is also great as a virgin drink too, so if you’re hosting a variety of different guests you can easily make two different batches to make everyone happy. pack this bevy up in a thermos to have with you on the beach, or make for a backyard or pool hang.
